In its heyday around the 1st century, Petra was a major trading hub that was inhabited by around 30,000 Nabataeans (an ancient Arab people). It was voted one of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/world.new7wonders.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">New Seven Wonders of the World<\/span><\/a><\/strong> in 2007. The traditional owners of Ulu<span class=\"s3\">\u1e5f<\/span>u-Kata Tju<span class=\"s3\">\u1e6f<\/span>a are the Ana<span class=\"s3\">\u1e49<\/span>gu Indigenous people. To the Ana\u1e49gu, Kata Tju\u1e6fa (meaning &#8220;many heads&#8221;) is a sacred place that is both powerful and dangerous. It is made up of nearly 3,000 reefs and over 900 islands, and is also the biggest single structure on Earth that has been made by living organisms.
