This wave of censorship has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/2025\/04\/american-library-association-kicks-national-library-week-top-10-most-challenged-books\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">increased in frequency<\/span><\/strong><\/a> over recent years\u2014not just in the United States, but Canada as well, most recently with Alberta\u2019s new <a href=\"https:\/\/thetyee.ca\/News\/2025\/07\/11\/Alberta-Banned-Books-Target-Inappropriate-Material\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">school library standards<\/span><\/strong><\/a>. As groups, government entities, parents, and individuals continue to raise issues about the content of certain books, it\u2019s important to consider the impact this will have on our students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p3\">Frequently, books that address diverse topics, perspectives, and identities are the ones being targeted. Rather than removing or restricting access to this material, however, we should be celebrating these stories. All students have the right to see themselves reflected in the books they read. Not only does this help them feel supported, it also encourages a lifelong love of reading.
